Sunnyvale Lions Celebrate the Season

About 34 Sunnyvale Lions members, family and friends gathered together at Don Giovanni’s in Mountain View this evening for a celebration of the Christmas Season. Those in attendance broke bread, shared wine and dined together as we remembered and celebrated the year coming to a close and looked forward to another year of service in 2008. Sunnyvale Senior Center Breakfast with Santa

On Saturday morning, December 13th, a crew of six Sunnyvale Host Lions was on hand to man the kitchen for the Sunnyvale Senior Center’s second annual Breakfast with Santa. The crew produced enough pancakes, bacon and sausage to feed about two hundred customers in two seatings. They were also responsible for cutting fruit, making coffee and juice and helped out on the serving line.

MVHS Leos Ship Library to Africa

The Mountain View High School Leos collected, sorted, packed and shipped 1,182 books to the Tsoana-Mantata Secondary School in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Thanks to the hard work of our Leos, students in this African village will have something they don’t have right now — access to books to help them learn.

Besides collecting books, the Leos raised funds to pay for shipping them. About 10 Leos and about 10 Lions and family members helped pack up all those books in 90 minutes on Super Bowl Sunday.

Great job, Leos and thanks to everyone who helped!

Mountain View Leos Book Drive

Sunnyvale Host Lions and Silicon Valley Lions will join forces to support the Mountain View Leos Book Drive for the Tsoana-Mantata Secondary School in the Kingdom of Lesotho. The Leos are well on their way to collecting 1,000 books for a school that probably has four or five at most to share among its students and faculty.

February 3rd, Leos and Lions will work side-by-side packing up the books and labeling them for shipment to New Orleans, where they will be consolidated with 24 other libraries bound for Africa, to be shipped via ocean container.

Besides books, the Leos are also raising about $500 in funds that will be needed to pay for postage and shipping supplies.

To support this effort, contact hugh {dot} donagher [at] yahoo {dot} com. Manpower and financial support are both greatly appreciated.

2007 Holiday Party

On December 12th, the Sunnyvale Host Lions family celebrated the holidays with a festive dinner at Don Giovanni’s in downtown Mountain View. Festivities included a visit from Sunnyvale Mayor Otto Lee, the induction of our two newest Lions, Suzie DeUnger and Brian Rountree, and a live auction by Lion Suzie and Lion Dennis. Proceeds from the auction went to purchase socks for a shelter that is one of the Mayor’s pet projects.
